Maryam is a registered Counsellor who has experience in counselling and psychotherapy and has worked with children and young people from CALD backgrounds. She works with individuals and families with a history of stress and trauma, who are facing cognitive and behavioural difficulties.
Maryam is committed to working collaboratively with children and their families to establish early interventions and positive behaviour support plans to ensure that the child is best supported through the challenges they face. She aims to develop their resilience, self-esteem and psychosocial skills whilst engaging their parents, teachers, and other support people in the process.
Maryam offers counselling for anxiety, depression, bedwetting, separation anxiety, coping with separation and divorce, sibling conflict, sleep issues and behavioural problems.
With the aim of helping children to better interpret their difficulties in a way that they can process and understand, Maryam combines her expertise of building trust with integrated evidence-based therapies to enhance their independence and mental well-being. This includes play and art therapy to engage children in indirectly communicating their challenges; person-centred therapy to navigate strengths and difficulties; cognitive behavioural therapy to build helpful thinking patterns and healthy behavioural habits as well as mindfulness and meditation to tap into experiences in the present moment.
Maryam is passionate about helping children explore and overcome their difficulties, equipping them with the necessary skills to confidently face and address future burdens that they might encounter.
Maryam is also bilingual and speaks Arabic fluently.
